Draft a note quickly, from all the information you have available. A generated document draws on the patient's health record, the documents you've added to the encounter, and their form submissions together, so you're editing a draft rather than starting from a blank page.
Generating a Document
- Open the encounter and go to Documentation
- Click Generate
- Enter a Document Name
- Choose a Template
- Click Generate
The document appears in the Documentation list with its title, author, status, and created date.
Choosing a Template
Templates determine the shape of the document, such as a consult note or a visit summary. The list shows what's available to your clinic.
Tracking Progress
Status moves through Pending and Processing to Completed. If generation doesn't succeed, the status shows Failed and you can generate again.
Opening a Document
Click the document's name to open it. From there you can Copy the content to paste elsewhere, Print it, Edit the wording, and check Sources to see where the content came from. The row's actions menu also offers View Details and Print document.
Checking Where Content Came From
Generated content cites its sources, so you can confirm any statement against the material it came from rather than assuming it's accurate.
Numbered markers appear in the text, and a Sources list at the end of the document names each source and quotes the passage behind it. Click a marker or an entry in the Sources list to open that source beside the document.
A source can be any of these:
| Source | What it is |
|---|---|
| An uploaded file | A document added to the encounter's Attachments |
| A patient document | A document from the patient's own record |
| A health record entry | A specific record such as a medication or condition |
| A form submission | A form completed by the patient or your team |
| An earlier summary | A summary already generated for this patient |
Editing a Document
- Open the document
- Click Edit
- Adjust the Title and the content
- Click Save, or Cancel to discard your changes
The editor opens beside the document so you can refer to the original while you work. Drag the panels to arrange them however suits you.
Reviewing Earlier Versions
Each save creates a new version of the document. You can review what a document looked like before and what changed between versions, so you can recover earlier wording without regenerating the document from scratch.
Who Can See a Generated Document
Generated documents are visible to your organization only. They are never shown to the patient in Thrive Personal.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| The document is missing information you expected | Confirm the relevant files are on the encounter and have finished processing, then generate again |
| A source shows This source is not available | The record can't be shown to you, either because your role doesn't include access or because it has been removed. Check with a colleague who has access to that part of the record |
| A statement has no marker beside it | Not every sentence carries a citation. Use Sources to check the statements that matter clinically, and confirm anything unsupported against the original documents |
| No templates appear in the Template list | None have been set up for your clinic. Contact Thrive support |
| Status shows Failed | Generate again. If it keeps failing, contact Thrive support |
| You don't see Documentation on an encounter | It may not be available based on your permissions. Contact your Thrive administrator for more information |
