An enterprise groups multiple clinics under a single administrative entity. If your network operates several clinics, an Enterprise Admin can manage who has access across every member clinic from one place, without seeing patient records themselves.

Where to Find Enterprise Management

Once you have the Enterprise Admin role, your enterprise appears in your top-navigation account menu, listed below your clinic settings.

  1. Click your profile or account menu in the top navigation
  2. Click the name of your enterprise

You'll arrive in the enterprise workspace, which has two pages in its left sidebar:

  • Organizations — the list of member clinics in the enterprise
  • Users — every enterprise member, with their enterprise and clinic roles in one consolidated view

ℹ️ Enterprise is a configurable add-on. Setting up an enterprise, mapping your clinics, and assigning the first Enterprise Admin are handled by Thrive support. Contact your Thrive customer success contact or Thrive Support to enable it.

The Two-Tier Role Model

Thrive Clinical has two layers of roles:

  • Enterprise roles apply across all member clinics in the enterprise.
  • Clinic roles apply to a single clinic.

A person can hold roles at both layers. For example, someone can be an Enterprise Admin across the network and also a Staff member at one specific clinic where they see patients.

Roles at a Glance

Role Scope Patient access Manage team and clinic settings Manage enterprise membership
Enterprise Admin All member clinics ✅ (via Settings Admin at each clinic)
Settings Admin Single clinic
Owner Single clinic ✅ (and can delete the clinic)
Admin Single clinic
Staff Single clinic

For details on clinic-level roles, see Managing Your Team.

The Enterprise Admin Role

An Enterprise Admin governs who has access across your network of clinics.

An Enterprise Admin can:

  • View the list of member clinics in the enterprise
  • View every enterprise member and their roles in one consolidated Users page
  • Add a new enterprise member, optionally giving them a role at a specific member clinic in the same step
  • Remove the Enterprise Admin role from a member
  • Remove a clinic role (Admin or Staff) from a member at any member clinic

An Enterprise Admin cannot:

  • See patient records, encounters, or worklists at any clinic. Patient access requires a clinic-level Owner, Admin, or Staff role assigned separately.
  • Assign the Owner role at a member clinic. Owner roles can only be changed by Thrive support.
  • Add or remove a member clinic from the enterprise. Contact Thrive support to change which clinics belong to your enterprise.

How Settings Admin Is Granted Automatically

Adding someone as an Enterprise Admin automatically grants them the Settings Admin role at every member clinic. Settings Admin is the non-PHI administrative role: it gives access to team management, clinic settings, and clinical configuration (forms, automations, summary templates) without any access to patient records or encounter worklists.

The grant works in both directions:

  • Removing someone's Enterprise Admin role revokes their Settings Admin role at every member clinic at the same time.
  • Adding a new clinic to the enterprise automatically grants Settings Admin at that clinic to every current Enterprise Admin.

ℹ️ Note: The Settings Admin role can't be removed from a clinic on its own. It's tied to Enterprise Admin status. To revoke a person's settings access at one clinic only, they need to be removed as an Enterprise Admin (which removes it everywhere), or the clinic needs to be removed from the enterprise. Contact Thrive support for help with either.

Adding an Enterprise Member

  1. From the enterprise workspace, click Users in the left sidebar
  2. Click Add member
  3. Enter the person's Email address. It must match the email on their existing Thrive account
  4. To grant enterprise-wide access, check Enterprise Admin under Enterprise roles
  5. To also give them a role at a specific clinic, select an Organization and one or more Organization roles (Admin or Staff)
  6. Click Submit to add them, or Submit and add another to add multiple people in a row

At least one role must be selected: an enterprise role, or an organization plus organization roles, or both. The person receives a confirmation email and gets access immediately.

ℹ️ Note: If the email doesn't match an existing Thrive account, you'll see “No account found with this email address.” Ask the person to sign up at https://clinical.thrive.health first, then try again.

Removing Access

From the Users page, the trash icon next to a role removes that role.

  • Removing the Enterprise Admin role also revokes the person's Settings Admin access at every member clinic. They keep any clinic-level Owner, Admin, or Staff roles you assigned separately.
  • Removing a clinic role (Admin or Staff) only removes that role at that specific clinic. Their access elsewhere is unaffected.
  • The Settings Admin rows have no remove button because they follow the Enterprise Admin role.

⚠️ Important: If you remove the only Enterprise Admin, no one will be able to manage enterprise membership until a new admin is assigned. Contact Thrive support if you need to re-establish access.

Adding or Removing a Member Clinic

The enterprise workspace lets you see and manage members, but adding or removing a clinic from the enterprise itself is handled by Thrive support. Contact your Thrive customer success contact or Thrive Support.

Tips

  • Enterprise Admin is for oversight, not clinical work. It's designed to govern access and configuration without exposing patient data. If someone needs to see patients at a specific clinic, give them an Owner, Admin, or Staff role at that clinic separately.
  • Combine roles in one step. When adding someone who needs both network-wide oversight and clinical access at one site, select the Enterprise Admin role and the clinic-level Organization plus Organization roles on the same form, rather than adding them twice.
  • Review the Users page when your team changes. Every Enterprise Admin has settings access at every member clinic, so it's worth a periodic scan.
